North Palm Sat Ride

We plan on riding all three days, Friday to Sunday.  We will do different rides each day.  I will be working with a few of you who have experience with the area to establish the routes.  We will be able to use the courses from the organized rides a couple of weeks earlier.  We also have cue sheets from these rides.

This is a Boca Raton Bicycle Club ride and as such we need liability releases from all the non-members of the BRBC.

Our group is B- (17-19 mph) & we're doing 40-50 mile rides.
Others can ride at their own pace but it's advised to ride with a buddy or group.

Below, are the rules for our group.  I ask that everyone review these rules prior to the ride since these are designed to keep us safe and ensure no one is dropped.

Most of are staying at the Hampton Inn in Mount Dora.  I do know that some of you have made arrangements elsewhere which is just fine.  If any of you are bringing a non-riding spouse or friend, let me know that as well so that I can share that information with the group.

I look forward to this ride and getting together with all of you.

•             Start the ride at a slower pace to give everyone a chance to warm up particularly the older members of the group.

•             Maintain a pace of no faster than 19 mph unless we are coming down a hill/bridge.

•             Maintain a pace of at least 17 mph unless we are facing strong head winds.

•             Accelerate smoothly from a stop or when we slow down to give the members at the back of the pack a chance to catch up.

•             Slow down smoothly when stopping or approaching an intersection.

•             Check to ensure there are no gaps and if there are, slow down until the gap is closed.

•             Ensure everyone makes it through a light and if not, stop until the others catch up.

•             Everyone pulls for a maximum of 2 miles and then you move to the back of the pack.

•             Point out approaching obstacles and cars to others in the pack.

•             Use proper hand signals and voice commands when you are making turns, slowing down, stopping, pointing out approaching obstacles and changing positions in the pace line.

When you are in the pack

•             Yell out “Gap” whenever riders separate from the Team.

•             Maintain a comfortable position behind the rider in front of you but do not allow gaps to form unless you are not able to keep up.

•             Do not overlap the front wheel of your bicycle with the rear wheel of another bicycle.

•             Ride in a single file unless you are moving from leader to the back of the pack.

•             Echo the hazard alerts from the rider in front of you.
