The Ride Leader/Ride Marshal (RLRM) class and certification program is the flagship of the Florida Bicycle Association's courses. Hundreds of people throughout the state have taken the class, learning to safely and effectively lead group rides.
The four-hour indoor course is appropriate for event organizers, club cyclists, and community members seeking to organize and lead group bike rides. The curriculum addresses the following topics:
- The role of the Ride Leader/Ride Marshal
- Florida Bicycle Laws
- PCP: Preparation, Communication, Predictability
- CPR: Courtesy, Patience, Respect
- Route Planning
- Helmet Fit & Partner Activity
- Assessing the group
- Standards for Ride Marshals
- Group Exercise: Pre-Ride Speech
- Cycling with Kids and Community Rides
- Trail Etiquette
- Advanced Cycling Skills: Pacelines
- Crash or Rider Down Procedures
At the conclusion of the class, students can opt to take a written test for certification.
