The Boca Raton Bicycle Club, Gives Away 200 Bicycles, Helmets and Locks

to Children in Boca Raton and Palm Beach County

Boca Raton, FL. - December 1, 2017 – The Boca Raton Bicycle Club, Inc. is pleased to gift 200 deserving children bicycles this holiday season to promote the benefits of bicycle riding to our youth.

For many years the club had been giving away bicycles to children to promote the health and well-being of children in our communities. This year, with the holiday spirit of giving and uniting our communities the goal was providing 200 bicycles to our children in the Palm Beach County, up from 127 given away last year. Generous donations toward the Bernie Kite Fund from Marshalls, other companies and individuals along with the proceeds from the Frank Stark Fundraising ride held by the Club were used towards the purchase of the bicycles, helmets and locks. In addition, some helmets were provided by the PedBike Florida’s Pedestrian & Bicycling Safety Program funded by FDOT.

A group of 180 local children from five Boca Raton area elementary schools will be surprised on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 when they are presented with brand new bicycles, helmets and locks for this holiday season. These children worked to improve in their school work and showed continuing achievement despite the obstacles they may face. Special requests were received from children through the work of The Giving Tree of Temple Beth El in Boca Raton to provide an additional 20 bicycles to children. Dedicated members of the Boca Raton Police Services Department Crime Prevention Unit has been instrumental in helping to organize and deliver the bikes to all of the schools.

“We are so happy to be one of the oldest not for profit bicycling clubs that gives back to our community. Our members are as young as 84 years old and from as far away as Canada. This giveaway is to encourage safe bicycle riding in our neighborhoods as a great recreational activity and for our youth to wear their helmets and ride bicycles to school.” Jon Berman, President of the Club.

The Boca Raton Bicycle Club is dedicated to promoting cycling safety and greater awareness of the sport through club events and community activism. BRBC is a volunteer, non-profit 501(c)3 club established in 1986 in Florida.
